Unfortunately I paid a lot of money to a so-called ADI Training College in Leeds, and learnt very little. I was so disappointed with the training that I nearly gave up. I then decided to contact the DSA for advice and they sent me an up to date list of Ordit Trainers and Training Establishments throughout the UK. I was very surprised to find out that who I had trained with were not approved trainers by the DSA or Ordit. I decided to ring Expressway Instructor Training and I spoke to Iain the Proprietor who assured me that he could help me. I started training with Expressway the next week and from the start I new that the training I was now getting was in a different league to what I had got before. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the training and two months later qualified as an Approved Driving Instructor and within days I got a vacancy with the AA. Thank you Iain for all your help, I couldn’t have done it without you and I will always recommend you to anybody I know who wants to be a Driving Instructor.

I paid over £2000 to a training school who advertises all the time in our local paper. I made a massive mistake and paid for it, as although I past part 1 & 2 Exams with them I realised they didn’t have the necessary skills to teach me the instructional techniques I needed to pass part 3. I complained to that particular group about their standards but they had an answer for everything and also the rest of my money, I even contemplated taking them to court. I thought I was going to learn how to become a driving instructor and then get a job with them. PLEASE BE CAREFULL !!!! I decided to invest more money and I looked round for a professional instructor trainer. I contacted lots of people and eventually started training with Iain at Expressway ADI Training Centre. Some months later I passed my Part 3 exam quite easily and confidently and then started my own driving school with help and customers from Expressway. I cannot understand why I didn’t look for him in the first place. I would like to warn all people who are thinking of becoming an ADI to think very very carefully about the advertisement that they are answering in the newspaper. I received a glossy brochure that looked fantastic at the time but now I can see that it was designed to fool me and to get me to part with my money. It Worked!!!!

In 1997 I was a van driver and the job I was in had no career prospects whatsoever so I decided to be a Driving Instructor, I hadn’t a clue how to go about it so I looked in the Yellow Pages and I ended up ringing various driving schools. One name kept being mentioned over and over and that was Iain Smith at Expressway so I rang up and arranged an interview. I new straightaway of who I wanted to train with and approximately 6 months later I became an ADI. I then worked for Expressway for over a year before starting my own school in Preston Lancashire. I enquired at a number of training schools before Expressway and I learnt more in a 20-minute phone call with Expressway than I had from all the others put together. Although I am a LGV Instructor with the Driver Training Department at Fylde Borough Council in Blackpool it was decided by them that I should also qualify as an ADI. I enquired with some Examiners at my LGV Test Centre who told me only to go with an Ordit Trainer. I got the list from the DSA and after going through it I chose Expressway in Preston. My employer arranged to pay for my training and I duly started the following week. I hadn’t realised how difficult it was to become a Driving Instructor until I met Iain and his team at Expressway. After the first session of training I went home completely shattered. I then realised that it required a lot of hard work. I put in the work and I passed all 3 examinations 1st time. I was learning to be an ADI with another training group and I felt I wasn’t getting anywhere, therefore I discussed this with another person on the same course as I was on who surprisingly felt the same as I. We both approached Expressway and went on to train and then to pass the ADI Exams 1st time and become ADI’s. We then got jobs with them as driving instructors in our own separate areas and we had so much work offered to us that we could quite easily pick and choose who we wanted to teach and what hours we wanted to work. I now run my own school in Blackpool and have three people working for me. Ps I’ve also learnt how to be a Pilot, but not with Expressway though, they don’t run that course!!!!!

My name is Steve Hill, I started my ADI training with Geoff Moyle at Expressway Driver Training in March 2006 following an initial assessment of my driving skills and associated knowledge.

We then met on Saturday mornings for tuition in which Geoff instructed me in all the skills required for Part 2 and Part 3 of the DSA - ADI tests.

My name is Karina and I run my own school. I paid a lot of money to another training group and I didn’t feel I was receiving good training. I rung Iain at Expressway and he gave me a free assessment and said I lacked a lot of the skills and knowledge necessary to qualify at the part 3 stage, but he could help me. I started training with him the next week and I was amazed at how quickly he got me to the required standard to pass the part 3 exam. I passed 1st time and worked for his sons school 1st City Driving School Ltd before starting up on my own. I was a Trainee Driving Instructor with a local school in my area and after failing my part 3 ADI exam for the second time I asked the Supervising Examiner if he could recommend somebody to help me. He said the DSA would not allow him to recommend a particular trainer but if I were to ring the DSA for a list of Ordit Establishments I could find a good one in this area. The nearest one to me was Expressway Driving Instructor Training Centre so I arranged a few training sessions. My trainer there said I had been taught quite well by my previous Instructor but there was a number of out of date techniques that I was using. I’m pleased to say that I passed my next exam and became an ADI. I now run a successful driving school in sunny Morecambe!!!!
