Trainers & Owners
To become a driving instructor you will firstly need to decide which driving instructor training company you are going to train with. This is your first and most important decision you have to make on the road to become a driving instructor. If you get this decision wrong you could end up wasting all of your money.
At Preston Driving Instructor Training Centre we only use very experienced ADI trainers all of whom are Ordit qualified and at the grade 6 level. You might think that all driving instructor training companies will be the same, but beware because we have observed some companies using inexperienced driving instructors to train people how to become a driving instructor. Some of these instructors have very limited experience with a real learner driver let alone training someone how to become a driving instructor.
Iain Smith
Iain is the principle ADI trainer and company director of Preston Driving Instructor Training Centre. He has over 30 years of driver training experience in cars and heavy goods vehicles. Over the last 25 years he has specialised in teaching people how to become a driving instructor and has successfully guided hundreds of people through the driving instructor courses and the DSA entrance examinations. He is a Grade 6 ADI, this is the highest grade you can get from the DSA and he has maintained this grading over his last 6 check tests. He is also responsible for both his own and the training centres bi-annual Ordit inspection and has successfully achieved the highest mark possible in each category on every inspection covering 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011 Ordit inspections. All check test and Ordit reports are available for potential driving instructors to inspect. Iain controls the day to day running of the learner driving school and the assessment and selection of all new instructors at Expressway Driver Training Ltd and Preston Driving School Ltd.
Geoff Moyle
Geoff is a very experienced driving instructor and ADI trainer. He specialises in training people to become a driving instructor and is responsible for this company’s residential driving instructor training courses that are held in Blackpool Lancashire. He is at the highest Grade 6 level as an ADI as well as being an Ordit registered ADI trainer. Geoff has helped a large number of people to become a driving instructor as well as preparing a number people to become DSA Examiners by successfully guiding them through the examiner entrance exam known as ‘DSA Driving Examiner Assessment Test’; some of these people are now working as Driving Examiners at our local test centres throughout Lancashire.
Apart from being an excellent driving instructor and ADI trainer his number one quality is his fantastic friendly character that never alters, all new instructors would do well to copy this.
Sau-Lin Smith
Sau-Lin is married to Iain and is the company director and owner of Preston Driving School Ltd. She is not an ADI trainer, but as the only female director and having an abundance of oriental wisdom we all tend to listen and agree with her, however this may be because she is a black belt 2nd dan in karate.
Sau-Lin takes a keen interest in the driving instructor training courses that we conduct. Preston Driving School Ltd is not connected to Expressway Driver Training Ltd but they do however recruit their new driving instructors from people who have undergone driving instructor training at Preston Driving Instructor Training Centre.
